When You Aren’t Sure What’s Next: My 2018 Journey

Ever-evolving is right! Change is part of the human condition but it’s not always what we expect. At a certain age, we anticipate that life will become a bit more predictable with a bit less chaos.

2018 has been anything but predictable. When the year started, Kevin and I were in the midst of building what is now our new home and my MFR practice was going strong. I knew that moving and selling our family home was coming. What I didn’t know was how much everything else would change.

Being a solo-business owner is a wonderful. I know how fortunate I am to be able to do work I love, on my terms. But a part of me was starting to wonder how long it would be feasible to continue the physical body work as I am entering the upper end of my 50s. MFR work is rewarding and I truly enjoy working with my clients; that was never a question.

During the early spring of this year, my landlord for the office space let me know that the lease would be up later this year and he wanted to know if I’d like to renew. It was time to get clear about what I really wanted to do. I had created a beautiful, serene space that my clients and I just loved and my landlords were the best. Stay or let go? Could I let go of a good thing if that’s the option that my heart desired?

After talking with my husband and taking some time to reflect, I realized that I wanted to continue working with clients, but in a new way. I told my landlord I wouldn’t be renewing and started thinking about what could be next.

The demands of MFR work were beginning to affect me physically but I didn’t want to stop working with my beloved clients. What could something else look like? What would be most helpful to the women that had trusted me to help them? How could I still help them achieve deep transformation? For a while, there were more questions than answers.

Moving and getting the kids from college and visiting with my dad kept me busy all spring and into the early part of the summer. I began letting my clients know that August would be the end of my current practice. There were so many things to decide. What did I want to do? Who could I best serve?

For me, I don’t always know the next step before I feel it’s time for a change. I can feel the desire swirling around me. I can’t force the answers but wait for the timing and trust the next step will reveal itself as I’m ready. Usually there are some blocks I need to internally explore and release before the path can become clearer.

And so, it was eventually revealed that working with women around their issues of health and wellness was the best fit for my skills and passion. I’ve been able to create enormous changes in my own health and I knew that what I’d learned could help others.

Which brings me to today.

I’m grateful for the time I’ve had this year to make the transition. The office closing was bittersweet, but it was absolutely the right thing to do. Working virtually at my new home office is a joy. I’ve already started doing energy work via Zoom, and the feedback from clients is wonderful!

I’m not limited by geography or time zones. I can still connect with people heartfully one-to-one, and I am growing a community of women who want to know how to be their healthiest, happiest, best version of themselves as they age.

There’s so much frustration when the healthy diet and exercise routines that served us well no longer seem to work. It’s not a will-power issue. Hormonal changes (subtle or severe) can be the cause of shifts in everything from appetite, sleep, weight, energy and even our skin.
